AIGrid: Polycentric Infrastructure for Open and Plural AI

AIGrid is next-generation AI infrastructure that represents a fundamental shift away from traditional, monolithic, siloed AI models towards an open, decentralised, protocol-based AI ecosystem and networked intelligence.

A Network of AI

AIGrid is a network of independent, modular and interconnected AI components, capable of independently coordinating with each other to perform tasks, exchange data, or be composed to offer higher-level intelligence—one that is broader and greater than the sum of its parts.

Public Commons as Infrastructure

The primary goal of AIGrid is to serve as a global public digital infrastructure layer for AI—one that is not owned or controlled by a single entity, but instead contributed to and accessed as a public commons.

AIGrid facilitates a shared and distributed model of AI production and distribution, where intelligence is co-created by decentralised autonomous contributors, assembled from distributed modules contributed by the community, and shared as commons across an open network.

Open Collaboration and Polycentric Governance

AIGrid promotes protocol driven collaboration, where contributors can compose, extend, remix, reuse, run, share AI and cognitive topologies that plug into existing networks without requiring top-down authorization — provided they conform to shared protocols and the policies of relevant polycenters. These polycenters are autonomous, open governance nodes ensuring quality, safety, interoperability, values, culture and ethical standards.

Building Blocks for Cognitive Architectures

AIGrid is envisioned as a foundational infrastructure that provides essential primitives for realizing, orchestrating, and integrating plural cognitive architectures out of the box. These architectures are instantiated through templatized protocols and policies. The community can contribute new cognitive architectures by using existing primitives, onboarding new ones, or combining both. Rather than advancing a singular model of intelligence, AIGrid embraces a plurality of heterogeneous cognitive forms.

Backbone for Next-Generation Agents

AIGrid serves as a backbone for the next generation of intelligent Agents by providing a globally distributed AI brain and commons for elastic intelligence and compute. This enables agents to be lightweight shells that assume capabilities based on what they choose to plug into within the AIGrid network—offering choice from a comprehensive collection of diverse AI modules.

Collective Intelligence Substrate for Plural AGI

AIGrid is a foundational substrate for plural AGI—AGI that is not necessarily a single, all-encompassing monolithic model, but rather a distributed, emergent system arising from the interaction of diverse, specialised, and networked intelligences in a collective manner.

Configurable and Sovereign Grids

Multiple AIGrids can coexist, each with its own sovereignty, tailored to local needs, values, and goals. For example, in the context of governance, access, trust, and execution models, AIGrids can be configured to take many forms: Private Grid, Public Grid, Federated Grid, public utility, permissioned, or permissionless.

A Living Ecosystem of Intelligence

AIGrid is permanently living — an always live/executing AI-native and cloud-native production environment. As contributions grow, AIGrid is expected to evolve into a living ecosystem of intelligence, where models and tools aren't just static—they are actively composed, polymorphed, coordinated, run, and improved by the network.

Architectural and Ethical Intervention

AIGrid is a deliberate intervention — an architectural and ethical effort to tilt the trajectory of AI/AGI toward a utopian future and a systemic safeguard against dystopian outcomes, and a mechanism to balance the scale of concentrated power in AI.
